Baccarat Card Game Rules and Tips
Baccarat is a card game played in most casinos. While it may seem like a difficult game at first, it is actually very simple to play. In the game, the player is not playing against the other players or even the casino. The player is only playing against the cards.There are three possible outcomes of the game: the "player" wins, the "banker" wins, or the game results in a "tie". The term "player" or "banker" do not refer to the customer or the house, but are options on which the customer can wager.
The game is played using eight decks of cards, and the hand that totals closest to nine wins.
The values of the cards are as follows:
- Cards 2-9 are worth face value.
- 10s and face cards (Jacks, Queens, and Kings) are worth zero.
- Aces are worth one point.
Before the game begins, bets are placed on the banker hand, the player hand, or on a tie. Baccarat begins with two cards being dealt face down for the banker hand and two cards being dealt face down for the player hand. The cards are then turned over and added together. If the first hand has a value of 8 or 9 (called a "natural"), that hand wins automatically. However, if the first hand does not contain a natural then play continues with these rules:
Player: If the player's first two cards total 6 or more, the player must hold (stand) and cannot draw a card. If the cards equal five or less, the player must draw another card.
Banker: The banker's play depends on three things: the total of his hand, whether or not the player drew a card, and what card the player drew.
- If the player didn't draw, the banker will draw if he has 0-5 and stand if he has a 6-7.
- If the player drew a 2 or 3, the banker will draw if he has 0-4 and stands if he has a 5-7.
- If the player drew a 4 or 5, the banker will draw if he has 0-5 and stands if he has a 6-7.
- If the player drew a 6 or 7, the banker will draw if he has a 0-6 and stands if he has a 7.
- If the player drew an 8, the banker will draw if he has 0-2 and stands if he has a 3-7.
- If the player drew an ace, 9, 10, or face card, the banker will draw if he has 0-3 and stands if he has 4-7.
Tips To Improve Your Game:
- Placing your bet on a "tie" is not recommended. While the payoff is 8 to 1, a tie occurs less than once out of every ten hands.
- Practice playing for fun before you actually wager money.
- Remember that Baccarat is NOT a game probability and prediction. It is merely a random deal of the cards.
